For the past almost 6 years of living in Chicago there’s one thing that’s a constant disappointment. Breakfast sandwiches.

Dear Chicago, what you think of as an acceptable egg sandwich is nothing of the sort. Bacon/Egg/Cheese/K/S/P on a kaiser roll. It’s really not hard. In fact, I had friends who worked in delis at 17 that could make stellar ones. This is what the greatest breakfast in the world looks like.

Most delis will even have pre-printed pieces of paper like this. Counter guy fills them out, hands them to the grill cook & you’re minutes away from heaven.

Impossibly hard to find in Chicago. I’ve searched for years. The best one I’ve found to date is at Billy Goat. Which shouldn’t be shocking as they certainly have the grill for it, but it was a pleasant surprise nonetheless. If only I was downtown at 8am a bit more often. Maybe then I wouldn’t be so bitter about the whole thing. But I’m not. And I am. *sigh* Anyone know something I don’t? Does anyone here know where to get a decent kaiser roll?

ps — Are these cookies a NY thing? Patterson had never seen them before. Have you?

Are these a NY thing? Anyone else grow up with them in your school cafeteria?
